How has the CEM designation helped in your career?
Earning the CEM designation presented an opportunity to meet, share, and learn with other members of the industry.
Why is it important to maintain the CEM designation?
Maintaining the CEM designation represents a continued commitment to being connected and up-to-date with the industry as a whole.
What made you want to obtain your CEM designation?
I wanted to obtain my CEM designation to demonstrate my commitment to this industry, to learn, and to be better positioned to understand some of the facets of the industry which I may not deal with in my role; but my customers and partners do.
What advice would you give to an aspiring individual who wants to apply for the CEM program?
I would advise an aspiring individual who wants to apply for the CEM program to not wait, jump in head first, attend CEM week, take your exams there at the end of each course. The more you can immerse yourself in to the course and connect with others there with you, the more value you will realize.
How did you start your career in this industry?
I started in this industry while in college working as a stagehand and worked my way up in to leadership positions.
How have you made a difference with your show or with working with a client by applying the knowledge you gained by obtaining your CEM designation?
I feel the knowledge I have gained by obtaining my CEM makes a difference as I deal with my customers and other partners on events. I have a better understanding of the objectives, challenges, and standards for other facets of an event of which I am not directly involved, but directly impact my customer and the event as a whole.
What was it that you did or implemented right after obtaining your CEM?
Right after obtaining my CEM I reached out to a number of people who had supported me along the way to express my gratitude.
