T3 Expo’s Vice President of Sales, Tom Malek, has been the Chairman of the New York IAEE Board during the past two years. As he departs his position, he took the time to reflect on what the role has meant and provide some insights. Check out his thoughts!
It’s been an absolute pleasure to serve as chairperson of the NYIAEE Board these past two years. As I depart this post, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made this year and the wonderful Board members who worked through the challenges with thoughtful voices and plenty of laughs among colleagues.
We started with “disrupting the norm” — rethinking our practices and programs that would create better opportunities for the industry. We hosted fewer, but stronger, educational sessions, IAEEinforms – Securing Our Events & Housing Our Events concentrating on delivering valuable content with dynamic topics and speakers.
We also expanded the administrator’s functions for a smoother and more streamlined operation.
Our Young Professionals Committee also grew with more involvement—adding over a dozen new members.
We persevered and brought the Golf Invitational trophy back to New York (where it belongs by the way) after helping to organize the 10th anniversary of this event with our DC neighbors.
Almost a decade has passed since I first volunteered at NYIAEE. From being on a committee to becoming treasurer, vice chair and the chairman, I’m truly grateful to the Board members who serve this Chapter. Their tireless support and enthusiasm ensure the Chapter’s success year after year.
I am just the guy out front – representing an amazing group of committed and talented people. I could never have imagined that volunteering for the Holiday Party Committee nine years ago would be my first footprint on a path to chairing the NYIAEE, and that my decision would lead to such tremendous professional and personal growth.
I urge each of you in our industry to think today about volunteering for NYIAEE in 2018. Make it a resolution to get more involved!
Thank you for the opportunity to lead this Chapter. It’s been a blast!
Sincerely,
Tom Malek, CEM
